A Merry and Gay Holiday Itinerary
The holidays are magical in Richmond thanks to the dazzling decor and fun festivities. Christmas trees decorate nearly every mall and notable sites such as the Jefferson Hotel (a recommended photo stop, btw) and various holiday pop-ups around town. RVA Illuminates literally flips the switch to kick off the season in downtown RVA. And the incredibly popular Dominion Christmas parade travels down Broad Street with Santa waving from the final float.
But if you’re ready to have a gay ole’ time this holiday season while supporting local, gay-owned, and LGBTQ-ally-owned businesses, we’ve got you covered. Check out this holly jolly itinerary, chock full of some can’t-miss businesses to show some love to.
WAKE UP
Preheat the oven for your bake-at-home croissants from Whisk that you picked up the night before so you can indulge while still in your jammies. Why not top them off with your flavor jam of choice from Dayum this is my Jam?
GET DRESSED
Start your day by donning a new shirt from Say Hello Threads. Choose from sayings such as “Inclusion Is My Love Language” and “Tomorrow Needs You.”
CAFFEINATE
You left the house without having coffee. What were you thinking? Jet over to the coffee bar or lobby bar at Quirk Hotel for a little caffeine and brunch. You’ve earned it.
GIFTS
Grab your bestie and head to Fountain Bookstore for a no-fuss, no-mess gift-giving by exchanging books with one another (hint: they have plenty of author-signed editions to choose from). Then head to Diversity Thrift for a fashion show and shopping spree worthy of a buddy film montage.
DINNER
Go ahead and snag yourself a seat at Gold Lion Community Cafe where you’ll enjoy vegetarian cuisine in an inclusive and inviting environment.
AND A SHOW
Did you get your tickets? There’s always something worthy of checking out at Richmond Triangle Players. The 2024 season features “A Campy Christmas.”
DRINKS
The night’s not over! Grab a drink at Sam Miller’s to refuel before hitting the dance floor.
AND DANCING
Did you wear your good shoes? Dance the night away and partake in a few fun and festive beverages while at Papi’s RVA.
DONATION
The holidays are a great reminder to give to others. Don’t forget to support your local non-profit organizations this holiday season. He She Ze and We is an organization supporting families of Transgender children via support meetings, education, advocacy, and more.
Of course, if you get to the end of this day and are ready for more, there are plenty more options and ideas of ways to celebrate the holiday season while also supporting local. Spend some time perusing our site and Visit Richmond for more ideas and information.
