Pronouns: They/Them/Their

What makes Richmond a great place to be out?: Richmond is a very special place to me. As a trans person I am happy to be out because of the teaching opportunities I have. While there is a lot of acceptance in Richmond, there is also a rich history, that is deeply rooted in ignorance. Ignorance is often labeled as negative, but I like that a smaller level of folx in the Richmond are are woke” (for lack of better terms) than we think, because it really gives us an opportunity to educate and create change that will ripple into more rural parts of Richmond and surrounding areas that aren’t quite as progressive.

What’s your favorite thing to do in the Richmond Region?: My favorite thing to do in Richmond is meet new people. There are so many people that have anecdotes that leave the city full of life. Learning about those people and making friends from strangers is just the best.

What do you do here?: I am the owner and operator of Anecdote. Anecdote is a hair salon that is expanding into Lakeside VA. We offer a trans focused and trauma informed safe space for folx of all makes and models. Allies welcome.

What’s your favorite restaurant?: Tulsi Indian restaurant in cary town has become my favorite place to get dinner. The service is excellent, the food is always consistent. Honestly nothing else holds a candle in my opinion.

What would you tell somebody who has never been to Richmond before?: Go hiking, spend your money at small/ independent businesses, and be open to making new friends! There are so many amazing folx here.

What's your favorite store?: Little House Green Grocery is my favorite store because it’s just like going shopping in your pantry. They’re so sweet and honestly stock some of the best gifts and food items alike. Plus Bellevue is a neighborhood I could get lost in forever.

How do you spend your free time?: I like to spend my free time outside. Richmond is a beautiful city especially in the spring and fall. The capital trail is such a good one, and not to mention we have a ton of beautiful parks!

What's your favorite neighborhood?: Bellevue for sure!

How do you describe our LGBTQ community?: Our LGBTQ+ community is diverse and craving change. We are also making it happen. More and more queer owned businesses are popping up, and more folx are creating spaces where people can just be free to be them. It’s really beautiful.

Anything else you would like to add?: I’m so thankful to be a part of a community that provides diversity and a safe space to be who I am. While I noted that we do still face ignorant people, those people are only socialized to see the world through a lens that we have an opportunity to upgrade, and that’s really cool. Let’s make Richmond more trans aware, and accessible!
