Richmond, Virginia’s Best Dates: A Day At The Museum
Richmond is the perfect place for a little romance or staycation when you hit the town with your hubby, wife, new Tinder crush or Grindr guy. Dudes and gals, we’re doing the planning so your date will be sending you all the kissy emojis in no time flat.
We're starting at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
One of the many reasons to love the VMFA is because it’s open 365 days a year. With rotating gallery installations, special exhibitions and events, there’s always something new to see. Through March 13, enjoy over 200 sculptures from Auguste Rodin. Modern art fans will rejoice on the 2nd floor (that Warhol!) and there’s something for everyone on the 3rd floor with a reconstructed Indian temple, Tiffany lamps and a collection of Art Deco furniture.
Best Cafe
Nestled in the first floor of the VMFA, Best Cafe serves coffee, wine, beer, pastries, sandwiches and other entrees if you’re in need of a quick meal. A little morning meetup? Before exploring the galleries, start your date with espresso and take a perch on the patio overlooking the sculpture garden. Pro-tip: Best Cafe offers half-off house wine by the bottle on Friday evenings. It’s the perfect way to take the edge off after a busy week and start the night.
Amuse
Hop to a late lunch at the museum’s acclaimed restaurant. A delicious cocktail menu awaits with a mix of classics and modern twists based on current art exhibits. Amuse is also open for dinner service on Thursday and Friday.
Walk The Museum District
Explore the Boulevard and nearby Virginia Historical Society before making your way to the corner of Belmont and Kensington. There, you’ll find Chiocca’s tucked away in a basement at 425 N. Belmont. The deli has been serving up hot sandwiches since 1952 and you can also grab beers by the pitcher -- not a bad way to end the night.
Where to stay?
Make it an overnight rendezvous. The museum district is home to several Bed & Breakfasts including this one on Grove Ave. You’ll be just blocks away from the VMFA and Carytown.
