Fall is here, the flannels are out (were they ever really put away?), and Richmond’s coffee scene is serving all kinds of cozy. From queer-owned cafés to proudly inclusive hangouts, these spots are bringing caffeine and community all season long.

  1. Riverbend Roastery is a queer-owned spot in Church Hill serving up ethically and consciously sourced beans. They are committed to being “a place to gather, appreciate community & drink excellent coffee.”

  2. Gold Lion Community Café has a barista bar serving products from Afterglow roasters, chai and coffee items made with Oatly milk, and a mix of classic items like lattes and more personal items like the chai recipe made from a family recipe.

  3. By Any Beans Necessary is a bit of a one-stop shop for Richmond’s queer community. Not only is it a coffee shop promising a living wage to employees, but this queer and non-binary-owned space is also home to a bookstore with an emphasis on queer and radical books (and children’s books), and a showcase for local queer makers and small business owners to sell their items and build their businesses.

  4. B Boys Coffee is a new Black and queer-owned coffee joint in Fulton Hill, promising cool vibes and a focus on community. Keep an eye out for pop-ups and opportunities to join them at upcoming events!

  5. Eddie Rose Coffee is a mobile coffee shop serving the Richmond area. They focus on “creating joyful connections with every cup,” and often bring that joy to queer-focused community events.

  6. Minglewood Bake Shop is a vegan/vegetarian spot in Carytown serving up savory items like cheddar bay biscuits, warming cups of coffee, and an array of sweets including custom cakes.

So pull that flannel a little tighter and make the rounds. Richmond’s queer-owned and LGBTQ-friendly cafés are here to keep you cozy, caffeinated, and connected all season long.
