Run On, Richmond!

Fountain Lake at Byrd Park

Anyone who runs regularly will quickly tell you that running is one of the most de-stressing ways to work out. Play your favorite podcast and mix up your routine at one of these five must-see spots.

Byrd Park

Byrd Park

Just off of S. Arthur Ashe Blvd. and adjacent to Maymont Park, Byrd Park is home to not only three lakes, but also the Carillon which features concerts and events throughout the year. In the summer, the reflection in the lake when the sun sets is unmatched and makes for a perfect view to wrap up your jog.

Monument Avenue

Home to the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K in the spring, this stretch will guarantee you a long adventure as it takes you from Virginia Commonwealth University to the Willow Lawn area. Home to various historic buildings, homes, and general architecture, Monument Avenue is guaranteed to bring breathtaking scenery no matter whether you run in the spring or fall.

Bryan Park

Bryan Park

Located in Henrico’s Lakeside neighborhood, Bryan Park was, believe it or not, once a rural farm with a very rich history. Now home to five soccer fields, a golf course, and a raised plateau among many other things including various trails, Bryan Park is the perfect place to get lost in on a beautiful morning.

Maymont

When you’re done exploring all that Byrd Park has to offer, keep running over next door to beautiful Maymont Park. If you have always wanted to feel like you are running through a storybook worthy of Disney, Maymont is your place. Filled with gorgeous gardens, trails, and lakes, there is no path that is not absolutely stunning.

Canal Walk

Canal Walk

Though debatably one of the shorter areas on the list at 1.25 miles one way, the Canal Walk is the place to be for our river lovers. Surrounded with various beautiful murals and information about the history of the city itself, there is plenty to see on the short trek. Make sure you hit the James River Pipeline, one of the most popular stops on the run, and meet up with some friends new and old to relax by the river itself.
