Quarry: A Curious and Queer Creative Haven
Richmond’s creative scene just got a little more colorful, a little more welcoming, and a little weirder—in the best way possible. Meet Quarry, a queer-owned community space where self-expression, art-making, and connection come together in a cozy, low-pressure environment.
Located at 2707 West Cary Street, Quarry is the brainchild of Bird Cox, a queer woman and the director of Richmond Young Writers. Her vision? A gathering place where creativity is about exploration rather than perfection, where community is built through shared experiences, and where everyone—especially BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and neurodivergent folks—feels at home.
Quarry isn’t your typical art studio or workshop space. It’s a high-vibe nook for people who want to make things, share ideas, and reconnect with the joy of creativity—without pressure, judgement, or rigid expectations. Whether it’s crafting, journaling, Reiki, poetry, or even celebrating International Carrot Day with a gut-friendly salad-making class, Quarry offers a little bit of everything for everyone.
Best of all, events are affordable and accessible, with most experiences priced at just $15—and some are completely free.
Is your curiosity piqued? Here are just a few of Quarry’s recent events:
Pet Poems
Therapeutic Art and Reiki
A Meeting with Death
Basic Crocheting
Community Writing
Tarot Club
Junk Journaling
Membership Meetups
Meditations In An Emergency
At Quarry, participation is on your terms. Whether you want to get hands-on with art and craft projects or just sit quietly and soak up the creative energy, you’re welcome. Regular visitors can also become members, making Quarry even more accessible.
So, if you’re looking for a place where curiosity, community, and queerness intersect—where you can make something, meet someone, or just be—Quarry is calling.
