VMFA Offers The Perfect Getaway

For locals, VMFA is the perfect place to kick off a weekend, spend a Saturday strolling the galleries, escape for a quick lunch, or even have some alone time. We’re open 365 days a year, which makes our museum is just as appealing to someone visiting from out of town. No matter when you’re in Richmond, we’re open and have something going on!

On any given day you will find people taking advantage of this impressive space. Look in the Sculpture Garden, and amidst the works of art from Henry Moore and Jun Kaneko, you may find a few hundred people giving a sun salutation as part of Project Yoga Richmond. VMFA also hosts many after-hours programs like Jazz Café every Thursday in Best Café and daily happy hours in the awarding- winning Amuse Restaurant.

Every Friday night the museum comes alive. In fact, one of the most popular and well-attended events is Friday Art and Wine with its drink specials and free, themed tours of the museum. On the first Friday there’s usually music in the Atrium, you can enjoy a complimentary wine tasting on the second Friday, on the third Friday you’ll find people dancing to tango music, and a number of local Meetup groups take advantage of the space to meet new people on the last Friday of the month. Meetup groups include Richmond LGBT, college alumni associations, and the Richmond Arts community.

At VMFA, there are a variety of great opportunities to feel the energy, culture, and hospitality of the place we’re proud to call home. Our museum has something for everyone and we are thrilled to be a supporter of the OutRVA campaign welcoming all to Richmond and VMFA.
